Abstract
Rape is as historical problem that is persistent today arid has become embedded in our culture. No place is this problem more apparent than college campuses. College has a long-standing tradition of alcohol abuse and a culture that rewards men for sexual conquest. Sexual scripts have changed over the last few decades and now young people have to find their way through sexual interactions without a universal understanding of how to communicate with a partner about consent. Without similar techniques, people assume that they and their sexual partners are thinking the same thing which can lead to unwanted sex that unfortunately is not illegal in most cases. This study analyzes college students' Folk Psychology of sex and communication of consent to discover what is ideal and what cases break this norm.
