Abstract
Much of what I learned through my research cannot be expressed in this
paper. The experiences that I had with the women I interviewed were invaluable, as I was exposed to the likes of people who seldom are given
much attention. The mishaps and adventures of doing research abroad was
one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences that I have had
during my undergraduate career. I hope that this paper is not the end of a
project. but rather a beginning for me. Throughout me research. I became
convinced that the data I was collecting could one day be used to begin
programs and design policies to alleviate the poverty that all young single
mothers who are welfare-dependent face. This exeperience has forced me
to rethink my priorities and I have become further committed to taking
action against social problems on a community level. It is my hope that
others will be able to use the material from this paper and apply it to the
correcting of the vast social inequalities and discriminatory practices that
exist in the modern world, where ever one may be.
