The Role of Occupational Stress and Social Support in Job Satisfaction
Research has often focused on occupational stress as an important aspect of the study of organizational behavior. Many corporations are worried about the stress levels to which their workers are subjected: because of health costs and employee turnover. In much of this literature there is mention of the importance of social support. This concept while examined fairly thoroughly has never been well defined or agreed upon. This paper examines the concepts of occupational stress, groups, and social support. It the uses a case study of Wells Fargo Bank Company, the circumstances of several Wells Fargo employees, to illustrate how occupational stress and social support within a group context affect them. The last section of the paper is a research proposal to examine the interaction that social support from groups and occupational stress has on job satisfaction.
