Abstract
When I first tackled the project of a web site for Parkview Hills back in early
1998, I merely thought it would be a fun project for me to practice my web design skills,
not to mention a chance for some local recognition. Never in my wildest dreams would I
ever have thought it would later become the basis for my Senior Individualized Project
(SIP). Designing the site was definitely a lot of fun, but at the time I wasn't concerned
with the "big issues" I would later examine in my SIP, of whether the site would meet
both user needs as well as Parkview's professional goals. The aim then was simply to
make a web version of Parkview's newsletter, The Warbler, and to include other general
information about the community and how to gain information about living there.
After a year away from Parkview Hills, spent on foreign study, I returned to find
that the site was a bit of a mess and that I wanted to completely redesign it. I had initially
been rather sloppy and disorganized in my approach to web design. I now wanted to
make it a site I was proud of - not to mention one that was useful to both Parkview Hills
and its visitors. And thus, my SIP was born!
