Abstract
Antibiotic resistant bacteria present a difficult challenge for the health care industry and society. Developing new antibiotics and antibiotic strategies is an increasingly present need. Nanoparticles have the potential to be used as the base for new effective antibiotics and drug delivery systems. Specifically, nanoparticles functionalized with known antibiotics such as ampicillin show some promise as effective antibiotic systems. In an effort to explore the possible use of nanoparticles in antibiotic strategies, this study investigates ampicillin-nanoparticle conjugates against several bacterial strains. The nanoparticles used are gold (AuNP), silver (AgNP), and Titanium dioxide (TiO2NP).
