Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate data pertinent to a social competence, a sibling rank, and a symptom cluster analysis of patients who had not been discharged from the Hawaii State Hospital over a period of 3.5 years. Symptomatic and demographic data prior to and upon initial hospitalization were extracted from the case histories and compared to a matched sample of patients who had been discharged during this interim. It was suggested that because there were no differences between the two groups, familial and community attitudes and facilities may be more influential to the patient's discharge.
