Abstract
This SIP paper reviews the literature on depression within the geriatric population in consideration of dementia so as to explore critically the relevance of separating the demented population from the non-dementing population to form a more homogeneous and effective cognitive group therapy. The paper concludes by asserting the argument that the formation of two distinct groups of cognitive therapy within the geriatric intensive unit, the non-dementing and the dementing patients suffering from depression, is feasible and provides for a more efficient group.
