Abstract

During the summer of 2000 I participated in an internship at Johnson Controls, Inc. With headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Johnson Controls is a global market leader in automotive systems and facility management and controls. While working in the electronics marketing department in Holland, Michigan, I managed several projects including the development of an Intranet site, product benchmarking, and product internet marketing. The automotive industry, as of late, has progressively engaged in the World Wide Web as a tool for suppliers, manufacturers, marketers and purchasers. The three biggest North American manufacturers are collaborating to build the largest purchasing exchange of all time. Japan is emerging as a leader in business-to-consumer Internet marketing segment, while North America recently revolutionized online referral services with e-companies. The automotive industry is gaining exposure on the World Wide Web and high growth is expected in the future.
