Abstract

The reasons behind the decision to ban the veil in public spaces in France are so numerous that one can only begin to understand all of the details. The decision to ban conspicuous religious symbols, mainly pertaining to the headscarf, in public schools in France was in 2004, and with the addition of banning the veil in public, the issue became even more so a resistance to Islamic integration in France. I want to look in to the reasons that this is such a huge issue and the influences that made France so against the veil from the beginning.
