With more and more people accessing the Internet every day, our culture has been revolutionized by technology. The impact of the Internet on modern life is phenomenal, as essential as gadgets like the telephone and the radio. However, how people will use the Internet in the future remains undefined. During the past several years, Internet investing has been a financial trend fueling the economy. Such investments have created huge profits - and along with them, enormous losses. These losses are often the result of over-zealous investors, who have unrealistic expectations for their assets. Such investment behaviors became real to me through my experience as a financial intern for the Legg Group at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter this summer, where I had the opportunity to work with many of these "hot" Internet stocks. Within the Legg Group, I worked on several projects, including the hiring of an intern. This was my favorite project because it allowed to me to be on the opposite side of a job search. This process impacted me greatly, forcing me to examine closely my career goals and expectations for the years following graduation. In addition to my work as an intern, I also researched several of the careers in which I was interested. Through my research, I was surprised to learn of my great interest in financial consulting rather than investment banking. I also learned that I preferred working in a team environment within a small-to-medium size group. The coming year's career search will prove to be both challenging and exciting for me. With the experiences gained during the past several summers engrained within my understanding of the investment industry, I am confident in my preparation to join a team like the Legg Group as a professional analyst.en_US
