Abstract
This paper presents an introductory exploration of the Supreme Court citation network. Following an overview of networks and their application to legal studies, work proceeds on two fronts. The technical aspect involves two phases: an attempt to build a data model using the Neo4j graph database for the citation network dataset, and an attempt to implement a graph visualization tool using Node.js, Vue.js, and D3.js. This paper also considers previous approaches of applying network analysis to the dataset. Future work involves improving the data model, refining features of the visualization tool, and probing select questions in network analysis.
