Abstract
For the past two and half years I have worked with Nucleus Communications in Portage, Michigan. Nucleus Communications is a multimedia production firm that specializes in designing and implementing business applications for the World Wide Web. During my time at Nucleus I have worked on a number of Internet projects and applications. My work experience at Nucleus has benefited my computer science experience at "K" tremendously. It has allowed me to apply the fundamental computer science principles that I have learned in the classroom to the real world. For example, in my computer science courses the professors have always stressed the value of good commenting of code; I didn't fully realize the importance of this until I went to modify a CGI script at Nucleus which was poorly commented. The projects I've worked on at Nucleus represent a growing area of computer science, the Internet. This summer I worked on three large Internet projects; each with its own uniqueness. I believe these projects are a good representation of the computer science skills that I have learned at "K" and Nucleus, and thus, spawned the idea for my SIP: the development of Internet systems. It is my intent to discuss these three projects and offer the reader a better understanding of the development and implementation process involved with Internet projects.
