Abstract
I was not alive when the revolutions of the sixties and seventies happened, but I
have been affected by them. And I know that as humans, we have a curiosity about what
we were once like and how that distant past relates to who we are now. What I have
noticed in this present age is the penetrating effect we have on the world we live in. In
my lifetime alone, there have been two Iraqi wars, with both Presidents George HW Bush and George W Bush. The revelation of our longstanding dependence on oil has stirred public outrage and helped shape political policies with respect to the environment and diplomacy. Television has also taught us that the North Pole is melting, the polar bears are dying, and our world is on a precipice of dynamic change. But luckily an entire eco or green friendly industry, full of ethanol developers, soybean processors, organic food growers, free-range turkey raisers, hybrid car makers, etc. has sprung up in response to the environmental damage done by generations of industrial era ad consumers.
