Abstract
Throughout the summer, I was able to learn about Nomura itself, beginning from its vast client base to its large amounts of assets under management. I was able to learn about the main businesses within Nomura from Asset Management to Wholesale business. Nomura was a great place for me to learn and contribute especially because of its global presence and diversity of skillsets and nationalities of its employees. My highlight was learning about financial markets and most importantly, realizing the applications of some concepts I have learned over time in school. Spending 8 weeks learning about markets and the applications of Mathematics and Statistics in the field was fulfilling. The overall benefits of applying Statistics and Mathematics to this field overall has very good benefits in servicing clients, risk management and maximizing profits. While traditionally, this is a Finance position, quantitative methods are becoming increasingly applied. Moving forward, I will be joining Nomura as a Full-Time analyst in July 2021. I am yet to be assigned to a specific desk, but my feedback at the end recommends me for quantitative desk that has more Mathematical applications. I am excited for this opportunity band I believe this is a good fit for me that will help with starting my career and learning more about financial products and applying what I learned in school.
