Abstract
For the summers of 2018 and 2019, I excavated an ancient Roman villa in Italy; the Villa degli Antonini in Genzano di Roma. During the first summer, I participated as a student in an archaeological field school, then I was promoted to the role of trench supervisor the following year. Through this opportunity, which I can only attempt to summarize as fulfilling, enriching, and empowering to my development as not only a classicist, but as a person, I attained an increased appetite and appreciation for professional archaeological methodology. As the culmination of my undergraduate education, I wish to create a professional academic product showcasing what I have learned while excavating, reflecting on my introduction to the field of Classics, both doma militiaque, and to articulate how my experiences have shaped me over four transformative years. This SIP consists of two main components: (I) A stratographic report of the excavations that I supervised from the 2019 season, and (II) a structured reflection of my experiences in Italy, both on and off-site.
