Abstract
General Abelian group theory is a branch of algebra
that has achieved several satisfactory structural theorems.
The aim of this paper is to discuss the most important
of these theorems so as to give an overview of this very
interesting field. In trying to keep the size of the paper
within reasonable bounds we shall omit the proofs of many
lemmas and give only an outline of some of the theorems.
Consequently the reader is assumed to have some knowledge
of the most elementary group theoretic results. Other
elementary results are outlined in the first chapter of
the paper.
