Abstract
The effect ofpreexposure on a taste potentiated odor aversion (TPOA) was examined through 2 experiments. The first experiment included 46 male Holtzman rats and examined the effect ofO, 1, 2, or 4 preexposures of a target odor on TPOA. No significant effects were found because of odor contamination and the methodology of the study was considered. Experiment 2 included 45 male Holtzman rats and examined the effect of pretraining to a non-target solution before conditioning to a target solution on TPOA. Significant effects were found in the interaction of pretraining and solution. Fallacies in the Sensory-Gate and Channeling model and Within-Compound Association model in comparison to the data and support for the Configural-Elemental model are discussed.
