Abstract
I believe that setting goals for yourself and having certain expectations for a particular experience is very important when the worth of the new adventure is concerned. This is why I had many goals and expectations thought out before starting my internship. When I arrived on the Rehab Unit my mentor was eager to discuss with me exactly what these were and what I wanted to gain from this internship as a student. The very first thing I told her was that I wanted to be a helpful and useful member on the unit while learning about the field of therapy and make a positive difference for the staff as well as the patients. While trying to accomplish this I also had the desire of developing personal relationships with the therapists and benefiting from their insight about therapy and the
medical profession. I expressed my enthusiasm about understanding how a hospital
rehabilitation unit works together as a whole to make everything run smoothly. I also had the expectation of learning about myself and how I interact with people in certain hospital situations that I would possibly be confronted with if I were a therapist. And ultimately, I had the hope of further understanding the different types of therapy, the jobs that are available to therapists, and perhaps being able to develop a preference for a
particular therapy specialty.
