Abstract
Cardiac induced AKI is the rapid degeneration of kidney function within days or weeks of cardiac surgery and consequently leads to a buildup of waste products, fluids, and electrolyte imbalances. Among patients who undergo cardiac surgery, up to 30% will develop AKI (Rosner & Okusa, 2006). Currently there are no effective therapies for the prevention or treatment of AKI.
