Abstract
My project analyzes the TV show, Fleabag, in order to look at the use of humor in media to navigate guilt, trauma and grief, self-doubt, avoidance, and self-misunderstanding. It engages with existential philosophy by referencing Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time to understand the main character’s relationship with herself and how she skillfully maneuvers through the world. Her comedic relationship with the fourth wall/audience centers the paper in its relativity to how comedy is consumed and it’s shockingly therapeutic nature. What is beautiful about film and TV as forms of storytelling is that they are fairly accessible.
