Abstract
During my SIP quarter I researched adolescent addiction and also had some first hand experience in counseling chemically - dependent boys between the ages of 13-18. I worked with the Brian's House organization, an extended-care treatment facility working with adolescents who have recently graduated from primary treatment for substance abuse. These primary treatment facilities were usually in the form of a hospital program. The staff at the primary treatment facility has judged the boys unfit for placement back in their previous environment. I will expand on these qualifications later in my paper. The organization is a new program. I was one of the first six staff members. I worked for approximately one month before any resident entered the program so I was also responsible for the starting procedures and marketing of the program. The search for referrals was extremely challenging as many treatment facilities were reluctant to offer a referral as a "guinea pig" for our new program.
