Abstract
This paper attempts to uncover the reasoning behind the high prices of Multiple Sclerosis medications, as well as bring to light many of the struggles of those who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Through research and examination of literature regarding Multiple Sclerosis as well as the healthcare system, this paper aims to start a discussion of not just why Multiple Sclerosis drugs are so overpriced, but also why other medications are out of reach to those who cannot afford them. During my time working for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Michigan Chapter, I have seen firsthand the effects of multiple sclerosis, and I've even seen the effects of not being able to afford multiple sclerosis medication. In addition to working for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), having a mother with Multiple Sclerosis, for more years than I've been alive, has been a big factor in my drive to research Multiple Sclerosis medications.
