Abstract
This paper examines the education policies of the World Bank in developing countries. It presents important issues pertaining to the various levels (or sub sectors) of education and their economic significance and role in development. In the analysis of the history of World Bank lending for education, the World Bank's collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) is examined, which leads to comparisons and contrasts drawn to educational programmes conducted by Unesco.
