Abstract
In the pages that follow are my answers to the question
of just what has happened recently in the study of
schizophrenic language, especially since Kasanin's
Language and Thought in Schizophrenia. The literature
of the period from 1939, when the papers in Kasanin's collection
were presented to the American Psychiatric Association,
to the present includes a formidable amount of
material. For this reason, I have concentrated on those
articles which have dealt specifically with the problem
of understanding schizophrenic language and those which
have been most comprehensive in scope. Certainly I can
make no claim to have exhausted the literature, but I
feel I have gained an enlightening and meaningful overview
of the more recent work in the field.
