Abstract
Within the structure of the company, the Mathematical Services unit functions to some extent as a consultant. It is a unit to which other people bring problems which they themselves cannot solve. In this way, the unit handles a large number of extremely diversified problems, some requiring only hours, others months, to solve. A second function of Mathematical Services is to carry out research concerning the efficiency;, of the operation of the company. This research is largely based on computer simulation techniques, and is aimed at finding optimal points of efficiency versus cost. It is into this latter category that my first project falls, while the second and third projects fall into the former classification.
