Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to illuminate the operation of expectations as a strong influence on behavior, describing why and how they operate and how they are communicated. The method used to compile the information was my own idiosyncratic gathering together of published and personal theory, evidence from seemingly unrelated fields, and spontaneous experience and reflection.
