dc.description.abstractThe recent development of wide-band electrostatic microphones, with relatively flat response extending to one-half megacycle per second, has produced a tool with valuable research capabilities in the field of acoustics. It has been the purpose of this work to design and construct an improved version of these transducers and to demonstrate its usefulness as a research tool by investigating the scattering of short acoustic impulses in air. Small sparks have provided a source of high intensity, short duration sound pulses.en_US
