Abstract
Ceramics are versatile materials used in art, utilities, homes, and technology. Tape casting, a relatively new method of forming ceramics, includes a polymeric binder, which gives it properties similar to a flat polymer sheer. Scientific applications of ceramic tapes range from electronic circuit substrates, multi-layered ceramic capacitors, batteries and more. However, current applications focus on flat tapes. While working as an intern in the Material Science and Engineering department at Purdue University, I characterized ceramic tapes with the goal of determining if they could be formed into curved objects. Advances in this technology could lead to components and packages formerly made from polymers being made from ceramics instead.
