Achievement Motivation and Its Relationship to Anxiety, Grades, and Future Plans : A Comparative Study of Freshman and Senior Women
Twenty-four Freshman and 24 Senior women were measured on achievement motivation, manifest anxiety, grade point average, and future plans for the purpose of testing correlations and group differences. There was little relationship among the variables, a finding consistent with previous studies of college males. Freshmen and Seniors differed on their standard deviations on the MAS, Seniors having the larger SD. Freshmen, but not Seniors, exhibited a positive correlation between n Achievement and GPA. Major seemed to correlate with anxiety; realism and concern about the future were related to n Achievement score.
