Abstract
People in the United States of America find themselves going hungry in a country of plenty. Government and local agencies have stepped forward in an attempt to resolve this issue, but what happens when the services available are still leaving people struggling to provide enough food for themselves and their families? This study seeks to depict the current food state in the United States and using that as its foundation, argues that there is a broken food system which leaves many people food insecure. This study shares the lives of the individuals, specifically African American women, who are struggling to provide food for themselves and their families within this ‘broken’ system.
