Abstract
Over the last decade, the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) has gone on strike twice, pioneering the Bargaining for the Common Good model of collective bargaining. The purpose of this study is to determine if the organizational restructuring of the Chicago Teachers’ Union occurred because of a shift in framing of what the union should be, or if the reorganization of union structure created a new understanding of what a union can do at the bargaining table. The data from this study illustrates how the organizational structures used to implement the BCG model in CTU were dependent on the union’s internal framing.
