Abstract

My Senior Individualized Project consisted of a ten-week internship at Seyferth & Associates, Inc., located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With only a vague idea of the differences between public relations and advertising, my goals were to learn exactly what constitutes a public relations profession (the responsibilities it entails),to learn what writing skills are necessary and/or advantageous to possess, and to become familiar with the firm's operations as a whole. Because I enjoy both interacting with people and writing, I deemed it important to learn how one's time is divided between these areas of interest and other duties such as account executive meetings. I expected to be immersed in the world of public relations so that I could leave the organization not only with sufficient knowledge about the field, but also with a personal opinion about the profession.
