dc.description.abstractDuring the fall quarter of 1983, I worked as an intern in the Operations Research and Statistical Services unit of The Upjohn Company. I worked under the supervision of J. M. Magerlein, a Senior Mathematician and J. P. D'Ippolito, the Unit Manager. I worked approximately 35 hours per week for 12 weeks. My pay for the entire quarter was $1200. This internship was a very beneficial experience as it gave me the chance to work in an actual business atmosphere. It also made me more aware of what exactly Operations Research is. After working at Upjohn for three months I have decided to pursue post graduate degrees in the field of Operations Research. The O.R. unit serves as an internal consulting division to the other areas of the company and is called upon to study and improve the efficiency of the company's operation. The project I worked on was contracted by the Marketing Division and dealt with the efficiency of the marketing of·certain Upjohn products. Like most projects, this project was developed into a model which could be studied and whose results could be used to determine policy changes in the system. The following paper will explain the marketing problem, how a solution is found, and what I did as a member of this project.en_US
