Abstract
Families are greatly affected when loved ones become ill. Classic stress models
contribute to the understanding of the theoretical framework of the family experience
during a health crisis. These theories aid in the comprehension of real-life issues such as
the family cancer experience and hospital vigilance. Each family member can be affected
differently, and when one of them becomes a caregiver, the situation is further
compromised, making the person both emotionally and physically vulnerable. The
Hospital Hospitality House, a resource providing emotional and cost-effective support
aids families with hospitalized relatives. Little research has been done to study the effects
of these kinds of homes. In this proposed study, it is hypothesized that people who stay
in a Hospitality House will have a better sense of well-being, indicating how well they
have adapted to their relative's illness and hospitalization, compared to those who are not
afforded the opportunity.
