A Gernalized Questionnaire Analyzer Program Specifically Used for the Danforth Study

In doing this this thesis I had the privilege of working with the Danforth Foundation in its evaluation of the total experience derived at Kalamazoo College. The greater emphasis was placed on the four years of academic experience in completion of the requirements for an undergraduate degree. The part of the evaluation which I was concerned with was simply to develop a system of computer programs by which I could analyze the questionnaires which the Danforth study had devised and had filled out by the faculty and students. Specifically, I dealt with the Student Questionnaire for the class of 1966 and the Faculty Questionnaire. I have written this paper so that people with a minimal knowledge of the computer and its operation can understand what I did. My discussion is at first concerned with the questionnaires. This includes a statement of objectives in designing them, the types of analysis outputted in my program, and a part discussing how the analyzed summary data was used to fulfill the objectives of the questionnaires. Because the types of analysis identify so closely to the subprograms which I used in my program I discuss the subprograms here instead of in my section on the program itself. In this next section after discussing the master program I have felt it important that I relate the difficulties which I encountered and how I dealt with them. In the last section for the reader's complete understanding I have explained the input and ouput, included a listing of the program in Fortran, and provided the procedural flow charts which show the logic of the master program and subroutines. As an appendix I have included an informative introduction to our 1620 computer and its operation along with its various peripheral machinery.
