Abstract
This paper will be separated into two sections. The first section will contain a
brief summary of my internship experience including my duties and responsibilities, the
history of Great Lakes Steel and what I learned from my internship experience. The
second section will include research on many of the factors that play a role in online
trading. For example, a brief history of the NYSE and NASDAQ, advantages and
disadvantages of trading over the Internet, day trading, differences amongst online
brokerages, and choosing a broker.
The information I obtained for the research section of my SIP was found mostly
over the Internet. Although, I did use a couple of books I found on online investing. The
problem is many of the books that are published on this topic are already outdated, and
most of the information would have been useless for this paper.
In conclusion, a person already involved in online trading may not find much use
for this paper. However, for someone curious about investing on the Internet or one who
is thinking about online trading, this information can help you get off to a good start and
avoid many of the mistakes beginners go through.
