Abstract
This paper details the artist's process in creating the series of seven acrylic paintings, Collection of. Wounds. The collection is a result of a personal fascination with skin and the human body. The artist uses photographs of her own wounds to create paintings of varying size and scale. In depicting her own wounds, ranging from burns, to bruises, to paper-cuts, the artist considers the resilience of her own skin and her physical interactions with the world. The narrative outlines the process from beginning stages to conclusion, including experimentation with material, size and scale, and pallet, research on relevant artists, and considerations of the abject versus beautiful. Prominent research includes artists Kiki Smith, Janine Antoni, Jenny Saville, and Lucian Freud, and essays by Susan Stewart and Julia Kristeva.
