Abstract
As surgical techniques advance and further develop in
today’s medical world, it is important to evaluate and
compare methods of operation. These evaluations can
indicate which surgical techniques are more suitable for
shorter surgery times, quicker recovery, and less risk of
infection. Two surgical techniques that are compared in this
analysis are the true mini open (MO) RCR and the all
arthroscopic (AA) RCR. Rotator cuff tears most often occur
when there is repetitive use of the shoulder in overhead
activities over a long period of time. The present study
focused on the comparison of recovery and surgery time for
all arthroscopic vs. mini open rotator cuff repair techniques.
Based off the experiences of my mentor, we hypothesized
that a true mini open rotator cuff repair technique will have
shorter operation times with equal or better pain scores in
physical therapy.
