Abstract
The first section of this text is primarily concerned with innovations and movements in the modern art world, beginning with the twentieth century and concentrating mainly on trends in America. It is descriptive in nature, and its purpose is to reveal the revolutionary environment in which Kuniyoshi worked. Part two attempts to analyze the stylistic tendencies and qualities of the artist, with particular emphasis on change. It might be noted here that these changes had little association with those of the art world. Rather they were developments and progressions of an individual, lying solely within that individual. The last section, philosophical in tendency, comments on daring to be one's self in art.
