Abstract
For my senior thesis, I chose a project that joins together three very important aspects of my undergraduate experience: Psychology, Sociology, and Women's Issues. I
designed a research project in which all three interests could
be explored. Having a strong support network and agency
connections in Philadelphia, I chose to study the effects of
group therapy for abused women at a feminist counseling
agency, Women In Transition (WIT). I decided not to do a
research project focusing on abuse; my interests lie in the
interaction between individuals, the community, and I was more
interested in how theoretical models applied to real life
situations. I previously worked at this agency as a student
worker for four months and in that time learned a great deal
about what women experience in abusive situations. At the time
of creating my project I wanted experience working in the
field to see if this were something I wanted to pursue when I
finished school. Plus I also wanted my work to be beneficial
to the agency by helping WIT improve their program.
