Abstract
This is a study of the Arab Ba'ath -- a political party, a
governing instrument, a reform movement and coupmaker, and an
ideological group. It is subject to the methods and purposes,
and the shortcomings of each. The Ba'ath stands for the principles
of its title, translated "Arab Renaissance." The task at hand is
to define these principles and explicate their political significance,
to discover the meaning and purposes of a "renaissance" in the
context of Middle East society.
