Abstract

For the last 60 years, Detroit has been in a crippling and direction less spiral as manufacturing in the United States dies a slow death. Once the leading city in US manufacturing, Detroit now is one of the poorest and blighted cities in North America, a rapid turn of events for the city that once considered a model. There have been several attempts to resuscitate Detroit, the most successful being in 2013, as all others have failed. For the last six years, private investors and public officials have poured money into the city in an attempt to "Bring back Detroit." The ironic racism of that statement and the effort aside, Detroit is now. a perfect and obvious example of the gentrification that has occurred in most US cities. This case study will attempt to show how gentrification spreads across a city and affects the physical changes of a city.
