Abstract
During the fall quarter of 1985 I worked at Jet Propulsion
Laboratory (JPL) as a computer technician. In my section there
were both 'hardware people' and 'software people'. I fell into
the latter category.
During my first week I spent time becoming familiar with the UNIX
environment, C-language, and the Hypercube. I took a video
course consisting of eleven lectures on the Hypercube which Jean
Patterson from User Support organized.
In later weeks I was assigned programs which increased my
understanding of the Hypercube. I was able to access all the
documentation I needed and ask any necessary questions. A great
thank you should be extended to Kay Cloud and Chuck Goodhart.
They acted as my mentors. Without their guidance and patience I
couldn't have accomplished as much. With regards to my formal paper.
JPL provided a unique learning environment. For each task, I was
given time to swim in information and confusion and eventually,
thanks to the abundant resources, I would come up with answers
and workable programs. I have learned more than I could ever
document or that anyone would ever care to read. I have tried to
write the most comprehensible overview possible.
