Abstract
This SIP has been developed for the reader to get a sense of the thought process and
research that was needed in order to develop Dr. Hardin's "Audio / Video Matrix". It was
evident in the context of the School of Information and the type of projects that both Dr. Hardin
and Dr. Teasley were involved that the main push behind this database was to help ease the
development of collaboratories, especially in the realm of videoconferencing. My approach
this summer was to initially get a feel as to what exactly Internet collaboratories are. From
there I did uncountable research on aspects of network media, video characteristics and audio
characteristics. I spent the rest of the summer developing the database. Fortunately I had the
help of J. Brian Kurtz, a recent graduate of the School of Information who had created a
database extremely similar to what I had in mind and we were able to morph our ideas together.
