Abstract

The subject of the paper is electrical discharges in air. Part I is concerned with the theory of how electrical discharges occur and how a spark forms between two electrodes. Parts II and III are concerned with how a spark affects an electrical circuit and what one can learn about the gross behavior of a spark from its affect on this circuit. Particularly, the paper is concerned with the effect of changing two parameters of the circuit on the effective resistance of the spark, i.e., its ability to conduct electrons between two electrodes.
