Abstract
The first part of this paper seeks to study some of the methods used and proposed for evaluating students in nongraded schools and the factors affecting these methods. Which methods best emphasize learning, as opposed to the emphasis placed on grades as in the traditional schools? Is the school providing a challenge to the student? Is he working near his capacity? It would be impossible to answer any of these questions decisively, but by examining several systems, reasonable estimates can be made as to the extent each system is trying to aid the student in the above ways. The second part of this paper will present some of the contemporary ideas and goals in applying "grading" to nongrading.
