Kalamazoo College 125th Anniversary Convocation, 1958. For the College's 125th Anniversary, three days of events on the theme of "In Quest of Learning, Liberal and Christian" were held around Founders Day, April 22. The main convocation programs were hosted by First Presbyterian Church in downtown Kalamazoo to accommodate large crowds. On April 20, the speaker was Dr. Nels F. S. Ferre, Abbot Professor of Christian Theology at Andover Newton Theological School. On the 21st, the Honorable Charles P. Taft, son of the 27th President and Mayor of Cincinnati was the guest. On Founders Day, April 22, Dr. E. Harris Harbison gave a ttalk entitled "Liberal Learning and Freedom of the Mind." This photograph, taken for the Kalamazoo Gazette, was incorrectly dated April 19. It was either April 20 or April 21, since the April 22 Founders Day convocation involved an Academic Procession by the College faculty.en_US
