Abstract
A dormitory room in Kalamazoo College's Hoben Hall. At a Board of Trustees meeting on November 8, 1935, trustee Enos DeWaters passed a note written on the back of an envelope to Board Chair Claude Harmon stating that he and his wife had decided to donate $150,000 toward the construction of a new dormitory. That afternoon, after the announcement was made public, a college-wide celebration was held. One of the many buildings on campus designed by Aymar Embury, it was dedicated in January 1937, and named after the College’s recently deceased president. Williams Hall, which Hoben Hall replaced as the men’s dormitory, was torn down as soon as the male students had moved out of it and into Hoben. The student in this photograph and the photographer are not identified.
