dc.description.abstractKalamazoo College's first president, James Andrus Blinn Stone, in about 1860. Stone led the College from 1842 through 1863, and was responsible for the institution of high academic standards that allowed the College to receive its charter in 1855. He also helped secure the support of the Baptists, financial and otherwise. The "carte de visite" style of this photograph was at the peak of its trend during the first half of the 1860s. The photographer is not identified.en_US
