Abstract
It is now my privilege to introduce the speaker for the one-hundred and sixty-fourth commencement at Kalamazoo College. John E. Sarno was born in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, in 1943 he graduated from this institution and then served in the U.S. Army Medical Department, in a field hospital in the European Theater during World War II. After the war he earned his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, he completed his internship at the Public Health Hospital on Staten Island in New York, his educational history includes residencies in pediatrics at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Rehabilitation Medicine at the Institute of Physical Medicine Rehabilitation at the New York University Medical Center. He was the co-founder and director of the Mid-Hudson Medical Group in Fishkill, New York, and the Clinical Director of the New York State Rehabilitation Hospital in West Haverstraw. Today, he is professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. He also serves as an attending physician at the imminent Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University’s medical center. The title of his address once the train passes. I’ll start that sentence again. The title of his address is “Stronger Than We Think”. Graduates, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of Kalamazoo College I ask you to welcome to the podium Dr. John E. Sarno class of 1943, our commencement speaker today. Dr. Sarno.
